2021 Drum PD Session

Drum Resources and Handouts

PREP BEFORE THE DAY

Pickup of materials will be Tuesday October 19/2021 at Windsor Park Collegiate in the staff parking lot closer to the baseball diamond.

There are a few things you'll need to do before the build day in order to follow along. 24 hours before the session you'll need to soak the ELK hide in water, this is a raw hide and when dry it's completely stiff, it will need a full 24 hours of soaking time to become workable. Both the sinew and ELK hide will need to be soaked.

Tools required for the day will be minimal.

(1) Measuring device, measuring tape or 18" ruler.
(2) Center punch or hole punch (Links located below)
(3) Olfa knife or sharp knife to cut.
(4) Sharpie marker
(5) Hammer

Center punches can often be found in your school if they have a woodshop, I do not own enough to lend out to everyone so this will be one thing each of you need to find. Most other items can be found in your school.

Lastly you'll need a work surface you can punch the leather on, something like plywood or a work table.

These are examples of center punches, try and find something with a 3/8" size ideally. Smaller and it'll make feeding the sineux more difficult through the hole.
